Brief History

A Short History of College.

Narasinghpur College, Narasinghpur, Dist. Cuttack is one of the largest constituent colleges of the Utkal University. The college was established on1st December,1978 and founded by a group of philothonpists, academicians and local people who were concerned about the development of Higher Education in the locality. Dr. Radhanath Rath, the Editor of “The Samaj” and a noble son of Odisha inaugurated the establishment of this College whose blessings have a cheering and an animating influence on the inmates of this Alma Mater. The 10th February, 1983 is a red-letter day in the history of this College as Dr. M.K. Rout, the then Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University inaugurated the new home for this College at Dalkhai, two Kilometers to the east of Narasinghpur town.Narasinghpur College, Narasinghpur, Dist. About Us

Narasinghpur College is a premier Higher Education Institution of Odisha of Category-I, dedicated to teaching and research. It has highly qualified academicians who impart education in Science, Commerce, and Arts at undergraduate and graduate levels to more than 2200 students. The college has consistently demonstrated outstanding performance in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities. The college has completed 45 years in the realm of imparting higher education. It has made significant and unparalleled contributions in terms of producing scholars, bureaucrats, intellectuals, and sportsperson serving in different domains not only in our own country but even at international levels.

The College came under the UGC assistance fold of 2 (f) and 12(B) vide UGC letter No. F.8-442/2005 (CPP-I) dated 19th March 2007, which gave a new impetus to this Alma Mater. The College celebrated the Silver Jubilee with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Mr. Naveen Pattanaik as Chief Guest in 2003-04. The academic atmosphere of the College ripples with rapturous glory of crowning successes of batches after batches of learners from year to year. The results of this institution at the Higher Secondary and the Degree level are at par with or even better than the CHSE and University percentage because of the dedication and devotion of the students and the employees of the institution towards education and sincerely due to the informal and intimate interaction between the teacher and the taught.

At present, in degree level, Arts has 256 sanctioned seats, Science has 96 seats and Commerce with 96 seats. Honours facilities are available in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Botany and Zoology in the Science stream , in Arts the Honours facilities are available in History, Political Science, Economics, Sanskrit, Oriya, English Education, Geography and Sociology with Home Science and Philosophy as pass subject and also in Commerce with 64 seats. Similarly, in Higher Secondary Arts has 384 sanctioned seats, Science with 96 seats and Commerce with 96 sanctioned seats.

The vision and guidance of the members of the old Governing Bodies are appluadable for shaping the College to the size of what it is today. The new block built on the western side of the main block of the College, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1994 by Sj. S.N. Nayak, the Hon’ble Minister of Revenue, Orissa gives a gracious look to the College. The College expresses its gratitude to Sj.Naveen Pattanaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha for sanctioning Rs Rs. 2.25 crores for the Construction of SMART Class rooms , Class room Gallery and Laboratories etc, which is to be used in the FA 2023-24. The College is also grateful to Sj. Debi Prasad Mishra, Ex- Cabinate Minister and Present MLA of Baramba- Narasinghpur and the son of the soil, for his keen interest and active role in the development of this institution.

The most important and remarkable achievement of the College during academic session 2006-07 is the inclusion of our College in 2(f) & 12 B of the UGC. This inclusion was a long cherished hope and it has added new petals to the lovely lotus of the institution. We are now eligible to receive financial grants for infrastructural improvement of the College from various Government Projects. In the mean time College has completed Ist and the 2nd cycle of NAAC in the year 2007 and 2017 successfully and is contemplating to complete the 3rd cycle in the near future.
